Certification

  • Blue Angel (certification) Blue Angel is the oldest ecolabel in the world, and it covers some 10,000 products in some 80 product categories.
  • Control Union From its roots in agricultural inspections, Peterson and Control Union has been operating for nearly 100 years in the field of logistics, quality, certifications and risk management.
  • ETI (Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code) The ETI Base Code is founded on the conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and is an internationally recognised code of labour practice.
  • Fair Trade Fair trade is an institutional arrangement designed to help producers in developing countries achieve better trading conditions.
  • Fair Trade Foundation Fair trade is a global movement with a strong and active presence in the UK, represented by the Fair trade Foundation.
  • Fair Wear Foundation Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) is an independent multi-stakeholder organisation that works with garment brands, garment workers and industry influencers to improve labour conditions in garment factories.
  • FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) FSC promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests.
  • ILO (International Labour Organisation) The only tripartite U.N. agency, since 1919 the ILO brings together governments, employers and workers of 187 member States, to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes promoting decent work for all women and men.
  • Organic Content Standard The Organic Content Standard (OCS) applies to any non-food product containing 95-100% organic material. It verifies the presence and amount of organic material in a final product and tracks the flow of the raw material from its source to the final product.
  • Sedex Sedex is one of the world’s leading ethical trade service providers, working to improve working conditions in global supply chains.
  • Soil Association The Soil Association is the UK’s leading membership charity campaigning for healthy, humane and sustainable food, farming and land use.
  • WRAP Certification Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting safe, lawful, humane and ethical manufacturing around the world through certification and education.

Terminology and material glossary

  • Biodegradable is commonly associated with environmentally friendly products that are part of the earth’s innate cycles like the carbon cycle and capable of decomposing back into natural elements.
  • Bamboo as a plant is naturally pest-resistant, 100% biodegradable, anti-fungal, antibacterial, and regrows to its adult size in 3 to 5 years.
  • Corn plastic is a bioplastic. Bioplastics are biodegradable materials that come from renewable sources and can be used to reduce the problem of plastic waste that is suffocating the planet and contaminating the environment.
  • PET bottle recycling
  • PP (Polypropylene) Polypropylene is recyclable and has the number “5” as its resin identification code
  • Wheat Straw Fibre Hundreds of different fibrous plants can be manufactured into alternatives to tree-based paper products, most notably wheat, rice, hemp, flax, and sugar cane. In many agricultural processes, straw is treated merely as the agricultural waste that remains after grain or juice is extracted from crops.
